TexasBeaders is a YahooGroups  list for beadwork artists living in Texas. Its purpose is to share info about local bead resources, bead gatherings and retreats, classes, shows, bead stores, traveling bead vendors, beading techniques, bead websites and members' latest work.  This website provides additional resources for those wanting to learn more about the art of beadwork in Texas.

Please respect the teachers' copyrights by not posting project instructions on web pages or to email lists, or distributing copies of instructions outside the retreat, or teaching classes, unless you have obtained the teacher's permission.

Sign ups for classes are Friday night at the retreat.
  Each student may sign up for two classes.

Triple Ripple Bracelet

You'll want to make lots of these.  Use one color of seedbeads or go wild and mix it up with multi-colors.

SUPPLIES:
1 tube of 4 mm cubes
1 tube of #11 seeds
50 +/- 4 mm bicones
2 #10 needles

BONNIE COULSTON
Russian Leaf

Learn Bonnie's tricks to make these beautiful Russian leaves without frustration.  Her instructions makes the process much easier than tutorials you may have seen before.  And there's lots you can do with these gorgeous leaves.  The second photo shows how Bonnie used leaves in her bead challenge piece at last retreat.

SUPPLIES:
Delicas or size 11 seedbeads (for outside of leaf)
size 15 seedbeads (for veins in leaf)

MARILYN GARDINER
Mobius Flower Bracelet & Earrings


Create a mobius flower chain bracelet and earrings that are delightful to wear—the narrow bracelet uses a gauge of sterling silver that gives it presence.
Learn to create mobius balls and link them with 2-in-2 chain, all made with sterling silver jump rings. Learn how to work to professional standards when using pliers and jump rings. Find out about sources & resources for materials and chain designs.  All tools provided.

SUPPLIES:
Purchase a kit for $41 which includes polished sterling silver jump rings (3 sizes), sterling ear wires or posts, detailed instructions and anti-tarnish tabs. (Clasp not included.)

OR bring your own supplies:
enough rings for 8” of chain, not including clasp)
72 jump rings 1.0 mm diameter (18 awg), 4 mm ID
72 jump rings 1.0 mm diameter (18 awg), 6 mm ID
2 jump rings 1.25 mm diameter (16 awg), 3 mm ID (to connect the clasp)
1 pair ear wires, posts or clip-on findings

Magnifiers/glasses if needed for close-up work. Optional: bring chainnose, flatnose & bentnose jewellers’ pliers if you have them.

Twisted Ndebele Bracelet

Take a twist on peyote and Ndebele and you have the makings for this unusual, eye-catching bracelet.

SUPPLIES:
2 tubes of different colors Delicas
clasp, needle, thread to match

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NANCY MARTIN
Wire Ring

Wire, beads and magic come together to make this fabulous ring. 

SUPPLIES:
About 5 ft. of 24 gauge sterling or GF round wire
Assorted small beads, pearls, etc.

In addition, it would be helpful to bring the following tools:
Chain nose pliers
Ring stick
Knitting needle size 1 or smaller (or corresponding size of wooden dowel)
Flush cutters

Nancy will have spare tools for student use and additional wire available for purchase if needed.

 

 

 


 

NANCY SUSANECK
Bead Embellished Coiled Basket

Using fiber and cording, you'll learn to make a coiled basket.  Then the fun begins as you use bead soup and accent beads to embellish your new basket.

Nancy will sell a kit for the fiber basket.  Kit will have fiber, cording, and tapestry needle to make the basket.

Supplies:
Bead soup - a mix of your favorite colors and sizes of beads.  You can use any size or shape to embellish your basket.  If desired, add in a a few larger accent beads.

 


 

 

GAYLE GODDARD
Color In Design

Explore color as it applies to your beadwork - Gayle talks about combining colors, experimenting with color and where to look for color combination ideas. Bring a focal bead or other item you want to color-match, and Gayle will use them as examples in class. A small portable color wheel is available for $3 in class, or bring your own - the discussion covers to color wheel terminology.
 

Supplies:
Bring your own color wheel or purchase one from Gayle for $3.   If you wish, bring a few focal beads you want to color match and the class will discuss the right bead colors to match your focal beads.

 

 

 

 

 

SANDY PARDO
African Helix

This traditional African stitch makes a flexible rope that looks great for a bracelet, necklace or lariat.  If you wish, combine it with a focal bead to make a statement.

Supplies:
Two contrasting colors of size 11 seed beads, clasp, needle, thread, wax, beading surface.   Focal and accent beads, if desired.

 

 

 

IDA WILLIAMS
Russian Spiral

Russian Spiral is a variation on a netting stitch that gives a wonderful spiral. 

The sample necklace uses 1 tube of #3 and 1 tube #2 bugles and 1 tube 11/0 seeds.  Is wonderful with size 1 bugles, very delicate and dainty. 

Supplies:
11/0 seed beads, Coordinating Bugles, Thread and Clasp.
